Alisha Truesdale-Cotton is a seasoned educator and visionary leader, dedicated to transforming educational institutions through strategic planning and Improvement Science. With over two decades of experience in the educational sector, Mrs. Trusdale-Cotton has cultivated a remarkable track record of success in elevating student and staff engagement, enhancing educator effectiveness, and driving positive change within educational organizations. 

Born and raised in Anderson, South Carolina, her journey in education began as a passionate K-12 teacher, where she imparted knowledge and inspired young minds in elementary and middle schools in Beaufort and Columbia. Her commitment to educational excellence and her unwavering dedication to her students set the stage for a remarkable career marked by continuous growth and achievement. 

Mrs. Truesdale-Cotton’s career trajectory reached its peak as she assumed the pivotal role of Associate Director at Voorhees University. In this prestigious position, she collaborates with Federal Program Officers to ensure grant compliance and facilitate educational development initiatives. As the lead contact for the U.S. Department of Education Office of Effective Educator Development, she plays a pivotal role in shaping policies and programs that have a far-reaching impact on educational institutions nationwide. One of her most significant contributions is her leadership in spearheading the RISE project, a ground-breaking endeavor dedicated to revolutionizing educational practices. Her responsibilities include overseeing programming, ensuring meticulous reporting, and managing program-related internal and external communications. Her strategic insight and meticulous attention to detail were instrumental in the RISE project’s success, which has profoundly influenced the landscape of educator development. 

Mrs. Truesdale-Cotton’s passion for educational innovation and her commitment to continuous improvement led her to establish Higher Ground Educational Consulting LLC. As the founder of this dynamic consultancy, she leverages her experience and expertise to empower educational institutions through Improvement Science. 

She holds a Bachelor of Arts in political science from Benedict College and a Master of Arts in teaching elementary education from the University of South Carolina (USC). Mrs. Truesdale-Cotton is currently pursuing a doctorate in education systems improvement at USC.
