Marvin McClean manages the Continuous Improvement and Assessment Data Systems processes for the Center of Excellence for Educator Preparation and Innovation at Voorhees University. He joined the EPI Center in January 2023 and brings an educational data equity lens with his years of diverse experiences with institutions of higher education Teacher Prep Programs, PK12 Charter School Networks, and the nonprofit sector. His work spanned across multiple states including California, Massachusetts, New Jersey, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, and Virginia. He has served as a data coach, instructional technologist, database administrator, systems manager, program evaluator, and accreditation coordinator. 

Mr. McClean’s prior experiences involved managing, assessing, and reporting data for continuous improvement, program evaluation, compliance, and funding. This included preparing submissions for the Council of Accreditation of Educator Preparation, National Association for the Education of Young Children, Association for Childhood Education International, the National Science Foundation and other governing bodies at the district, state, and national levels. He is experienced with a range of industry-leading data management, analysis, assessment, instructional, and digital design tools including Canvas, PowerSchool SIS, PowerTeacher Pro, LiveText, Jenzabar, Illuminate, Kickboard, PlatoWeb, Salesforce, SurveyMonkey, Tableau, Adobe Creative Suites and more.

He spent eight years at Claflin University in Orangeburg, SC working as the assistant director of educational technology and accreditation coordinator, and database manager. He then held senior positions with Freedom Preparatory Academy Charter Schools in Memphis, Tennessee and Uncommon Schools in New York working with student information and learning systems. At the national nonprofit Branch Alliance for Educator Diversity in Austin, Texas, he served primarily as a data coach providing training, analysis, critical friend guidance, technical assistance and evaluations to teacher preparation faculty in Minority-Serving Institutions of higher learning. Additionally, he fostered and maintained collaborations between higher education faculty, PK12 district partners, philanthropic partners, and education transformation centers prior to becoming an independent educational data equity consultant.

Mr. McClean holds a Master of Education in Educational Technology from the University of South Carolina, Aiken; and a Bachelor of Arts in Studio Art – Digital Media with a minor in marketing from South Carolina State University.
